Soil compaction of the port of Sviby quay and stabilization of the access ramp
THE PROBLEM
The main task of the port, located in the village of Sviby in Vormsi island, is to serve the ferry, but in addition, Sviby is also the commercial port of Vormsi island and a stopover for smaller boats. The ramp used for loading and unloading cars had subsided and started to move due to the dynamic loads caused by the vehicles. The movement of the ramp created an opening between the ramp and the concrete structure of the quay, which caused water to access the quay’s filling soil. Washed-away soil weakens the overall structure of the quay and endangers the service of cargo, ferries and cars. The management of Sviby port contacted URETEK Baltic team to solve the problem.
WORK PROCESS WITH URETEK TECHNOLOGY
The goal URETEK Baltic team was to stabilize the weakened soil caused by water access and to raise the ramps back to the original designed height to ensure safe loading and unloading of vehicles. The execution of the works was not allowed to interfere with the port’s daily ship traffic.
THE RESULT
URETEK Baltic team started the planned works after the ferry landed and the cars were unloaded. The ferry left again after 3 hours, which meant a 3-hour time window to carry out the works. URETEK Baltic team successfully stabilized the soil and restored the initial height of the access ramp, ensuring safe ferry traffic and the use of the harbor quay. During the execution of the works, the work of the port and the ferry traffic was not disturbed.
