Subsided concrete floor relevelling and soil stabilization of Rimi shopping center
THE PROBLEM
In a shopping center in Vilnius occurred floor subsidence, affecting 3,500 square meters of concrete floors and three concrete support posts. Subsidence was caused by construction fault that had not taken into account peat layer under the center at the depth of 4—5 m. In fear of repeating the tragedy of Maxima store in Riga, the shopping center was immediately closed, obviously causing great financial loss for the owner.
Concrete posts were supported by building contractor under the warranty, but in order to lift the floors, the owner of the center contacted URETEK Baltic team. It represented a major challenge, because the difference of floor heights reached up to 25 cm.
WORK PROCESS WITH URETEK TECHNOLOGY
Our engineering team compacted the soil beneath the mall’s foundation and then raised the subsided concrete floors back to their original design height. Restoring the soil’s bearing capacity with our technology and thereby ensuring the safety of the shopping center.
THE RESULT
Vilnius Rimi shopping center was closed for repair for nearly six months, but without using URETEK technology, reopening of the center would have been delayed even longer, causing even greater loss for the owner. It took 21 days for our technical team to complete all the works with subsided concrete floors.
