Ground improvement and structural re-levelling of a 900-ton grain storage tower
THE PROBLEM
A 900-ton grain storage tower is an essential part of operations — but what happens when it starts to tilt right after its first filling?
This was the challenge faced by a local grain processing company when unexpected ground movement caused uneven settlement in the tower’s foundation.
3cm settlement at the base might not sound alarming, but for a 15m high grain pumping system, even minor movement posed a serious risk of system failure. The silty clay soil conditions made it impossible to predict how much further the tower could shift. Adding to the challenge, the storage tower was fully loaded, leaving no option to relocate the grain during repairs.
WORK PROCESS WITH URETEK TECHNOLOGY
To restore safety and prevent further movement, our team used URETEK innovative geopolymer injection technology to:
- Stabilise the soil foundation by compacting the ground to a depth of -4m.
- Lift the grain storage tower back to its original designed level.
- Complete the entire project in just one day — without disrupting company´s daily operations.
THE RESULT
The 900-ton grain tower was successfully stabilised and restored, ensuring its long-term structural integrity. The soil was reinforced to prevent further settlement, and operations continued without downtime.
This project demonstrates how modern ground engineering solutions can solve even the most complex stability challenges quickly and efficiently.
